My Best Tip for staying on track on a summer vacation is PREPARATION. Preparation is key in achieving your goals, having fun, and not getting off track. When traveling, I always do research to ensure the hotel or where I am staying has a decent gym or that there is a gym within the area I can access. I keep workouts simple and train for efficiency when traveling. Circuits are nice because you can get a good workout in without taking up too much time. Walking and exploring is also a great way to get in some cardio!
Also, if staying at a hotel I ask for a mini-fridge and/or microwave in my room to be able to supplement some meals. Since I typically eat 5 – 6 meals a day, I will come prepared to have 2 – 3 on my own and save the others for clean meals out. This allows me to enjoy the trip but not stray to much from my regimen. Examples of food that are easy to pack and travel with are: oatmeal, protein powder, protein bars, fruit, rice cakes, cereal, and nut butters.
When eating out, I tend to order clean as well. Some good meal choices are a filet, steamed veggies, and a baked sweet potato. Another option is grilled fish and steamed rice. if you ask for your food to be prepared without all the oil and butter, most restaurants will be accommodating. You just have to ask!
