I came to Jada Blitz in October of 2015 looking to change up my workout routine. At the time, I was practicing Power Yoga 2-3 times per week and running anywhere from 60-70 miles a month, on average. Because of the beating my body took from running, I was looking for a change and for something that would challenge me to step out of the typical exercise routine I was comfortable with. I stopped into Jada Blitz and after a consultation with Justin, I decided to sign up for weekly training sessions.
After working with Justin for a couple of months I transitioned to training with Hallie twice a week. I can’t say enough about how much Hallie has motivated me to continue challenging myself. For the first few months that I was training with her, I was still running on a regular basis, but had cut back to about 40 miles a month. This past January I had a conversation with Hallie about what my goals were. After that, I made the decision to stop running all together because I really wanted to try and focus on building muscle. At first, it was a serious mental challenge for me because I thought that I needed running and cardio to stay in shape, and I thought that if I stopped running my body would change in a negative way. The truth is, I’ve seen just the opposite. I have seen positive changes in muscle definition in all areas of my body and I have gotten progressively stronger since I started to focus on one goal vs splitting my time with cardio. Working with a great trainer like Hallie has been really helpful because she continually pushes me to work harder and she isn’t afraid to call me out if she sees that I am not giving 100%. She trains me like she would want someone to train her, which I love. Ultimately, that’s exactly what I was looking for in a trainer; someone that was going to push me harder than I push myself and force me to challenge myself. This is exactly what Hallie does.
In addition to my weekly training sessions with Hallie, I started to see even more results after I began working with Justin on my nutrition and started tracking my macros. In terms of my diet, when I came to Jada Blitz I already considered myself a disciplined eater and made healthy choices when it came to food, but I never consistently paid attention to how much I was eating on a given day. At first I had a little anxiety when it came to planning out my meals for the day because I never really paid attention to what macro nutrients were in what foods. It was a bit of an educational experience for me to better my understanding on what I needed to eat, and to pay attention to portion sizes. In the beginning, I found myself basically planning my meals for the entire day in the morning so that I could be sure I would hit all my macronutrient targets. Justin was there to answer all of my questions and he worked with me each week to tailor my macro targets to reach my fitness goals. As time progressed, I’ve gotten more and more comfortable with it to the point where it’s like second nature. I don’t stress anymore about what I am going to eat on any given day, because I now have a good understanding of what nutrients are in what foods which helps me find balance throughout the day. I travel often for work, which can be a challenge for anyone when it comes to making the right food choices. When you are tracking macros and need to be specific regarding your food intake, it can be even more of a challenge. That is when planning ahead has been crucial for me in addition to travelling with some “go to” items that come in handy when I’m in a pinch. I always have my food scale with me and a cooler with some quick and easy options so that I don’t have to stress about what I am going to eat to hit my numbers. I have to say that one of the best parts of tracking macros for me personally is that I am now allowing myself to eat foods I haven’t eaten in years. It has given me freedom in my diet so that I don’t feel like I have to restrict myself from any specific food, so long as it fits my macros that day.
Combining proper nutrition and exercise along with the guidance I’ve received from Justin and Hallie has really helped to keep me motivated and focused. Their positive energy and the positive energy from the entire team at Jada Blitz is contagious. From the minute you walk into the gym you can tell that everyone is there to motivate each other and that is definitely one of the things that makes it a great place to work out.
