Tell Us About Your Ongoing Fitness Journey:
I have always been active and into working out but within the past 3-4 years I started strength training and setting personal goals for myself. Throughout that time my views on training and nutrition have changed drastically. I used to be a “cardio queen” and completely scared of carbs. I thought that the less I ate and the more calories I burned the leaner I would become. When I started working with Justin in July 2013 he reintroduced the concept of counting macros, something I had tried in the past but was not following consistently. In the past year and a half I have learned so much about nutrition, how to fuel my body, and that consistency is key. Justin slowly increased my calories over time without gaining weight and has helped improve my metabolism. I have learned that carbs or any specific food group are not the enemy, Learning how to measure meals and plan ahead has provided me a sense of control and I am continuing to learn to live a life with balance. Along with nutrition, lifting has become part of my daily routine- I have not only have become so much stronger but it’s something I love to do and a great way to cope with daily stressors. Currently I am working on leaning out and continuing to keep a mental balance. Long-term I plan to work towards becoming a fitness competitor. I couldn’t have asked for a better coach to encourage me along the way. Justin has provided me with so much knowledge, a trusting relationship, and constant support.
Favorite Body Part to Train:
Legs! I have always strived to improve my lower body and I enjoy the love/hate relationship after a tough leg day. I usually have 2 leg days per week- one heavy day to work on building strength and improve form and another day with high reps to improve endurance. In the past 6 weeks I have reached PRs squatting over 200lbs! I also LOVE working shoulders because of the mind-body connection.
Favorite aspect about your journey at Jada Blitz:
The best part of Jada Blitz is connecting with other clients, members, and trainers/staff. The Blitz Team is so supportive and always willing to help. Since joining Jada Blitz I have met many people that are now friends. Although we are all working towards our own individual goals we share a common goal to improve ourselves and be become better then we once were. No matter the time of day the atmosphere at Jada Blitz is motivating and uplifting. Even on those days when it may be a struggle to work out I am inspired by others around me to push forward and do better.
Favorite pre and post workout meals:
I like to keep my pre-workout and post-workout meals simple and satisfying!
Pre-workout: Usually I have my pre-workout meal after work so it is quick and easy:
chicken, jasmine rice or roasted potatoes, and vegetables- I like to switch it up but I love making stir-fry vegetables with asparagus, broccoli, mushrooms, and onions.
Post-workout: Blueberry Protein Pancakes! I usually only use 3 or 4 ingredients: egg whites, oatmeal, and either banana, sweet potatoes, or pumpkin. Add blueberries, cinnamon, and PB2 on top!
Attribute you love about your trainer:
Since day one Justin has always been honest, supportive, and thoughtful. Each week Justin provides me with feedback, answer questions, and provides suggestions on how I can continue to reach my goals. One thing that I love is that Justin is constantly pushing me and helping me to believe in myself. Even on those days that I don’t think I can do any more reps or am not feeling strong Justin never lets me quit.
He has helped me find my mental strength and become more confident in myself. I always look forward to my training sessions and I continue to learn something new each day. In addition, Justin leads a life that he promotes to all of his clients. He is an excellent role model and leader because he continues to push himself and improve mentally and physically along with guiding and coaching clients each and every day. I am so grateful to have an amazing trainer, coach, and friend- many thanks to Justin and the blitz team for the constant support on my journey!
